This here webpage is called the "Star Project" because I have a weird fascination with stars. I believe it started when I was a kid; my mother told me my name meant star, so naturally it stuck with me!

I started this webpage partly because it's my AP Lang assignment (Mang always has us working!), but also because I wanted to try something new and gain a skill. To me, this assignment is all about getting to document our high school journey and reflecting on how much we've grown! Also, it's something cute to look back on!

What's In a Name?

My parents named me after the Hebrew Queen, Esther, in the Bible. My mother tacked on the first part of her name--Lin--to make it more personalized. I hated it. I viewed my name as something shameful because people, specifically teachers, would always butcher it (It's Estherlean not Estherlin or line!).

I always thought of changing my name to something cute like Elize, Estelle, Nora, or even Nova (I have a longer list).

Now, I'm sure you've noticed I've been talking about my feelings in the past tense. That's because I've embraced my name. It all happened in the beginning of my sophomore poetry class. My eccentric teacher, Morelli, made us write a poem about our names. I instantly hated the thought of it. How would I, a hater, blend my putrid name with the art of poetry?
